Welcome to MISSION MOON! All coaches in Oregon are automatically added to this mailing list. Teams in neighboring communities are welcome to participate in Oregon Expos provided there is space. If you have missed an email from Oregon you may read the archive on our blog, or see the important links on our website. Official updates and program materials can be found on the FIRST LEGO League Jr Challenge website.
1) September Information Sessions
I will be holding 2 Information Sessions focused exclusively on FIRST LEGO League Jr in September! These adult-only workshops will give you an overview of FIRST LEGO League Jr, the LEGO WeDo 2.0 system and let you see all the materials you receive in both kits. You can sign up using the links below:
During these talks, I will use the powerpoints on the FIRST LEGO League Jr Team Resource page
2) I-84 Stops and Talks
I will be traveling I-84 on September 20 and September 24. During these two days, I would love to stop and talk with your community about ANY FIRST program. If you would like to be added to the itinerary please contact me at Loridee-Wetzel@ortop.org
Currently planning stops in The Dalles, Pendleton, La Grande, Baker City and Nyssa.
3) What to do with Bag 3
If you are one of the 30+ teams in Oregon to already have your Inspire Set you will see 3 different numbers of bags. There is a bag 1, this is the cooperative build your team does during their early meetings. The directions for the build can be found here and it is very easy to break the build into 2 or 3 groups so everyone can build at once!
The bags numbered 2 are what your team will use to build during your meetings and for their final model.
Bag 3 is new this year. In bag 3 you will find lots of little Mission Moon tiles. I strongly encourage setting aside one tile for each team member to give them at the end of the season. The other tiles can be used as gifts to a team donor, for parents who are always there, or for more fun in the model building experience!
4) ESA Videos for Your Team
FIRST has been working with the European Space Agency (ESA) to create videos for teams to learn basic space concepts this year. The videos for FIRST LEGO League Jr can be found here.
WARNING - one of the videos does not have strong audio and the subtitles are AUTOMATIC so they do not completely match up to what is being said. This can be extra challenging if your team does not understand English. If you need translated materials or a transcript, please reach out and I will try to get those items for you.
I hope you are ready for another FUN season! We can't wait to see your teams on the moon!
Best Wishes,
Loridee
