2) Kickoff and What it Means in Oregon
You may have heard that MISSION MOON Kick-off is on August 1 at NOON EDT. This is true! That doesn't mean your team needs to start now. Most Oregon expos are being scheduled for the spring again this year. While there has been some interest in November expos in Hood River and Portland - If you are interested there will be a sign up in September!  This basically means that when you sign up and pay your national registration of $99 for your team your Inspire Set, Engineering Notebooks, and Team Meeting Guide will immediately be on their way to your address. It also means that you will get slightly more emails from me AND our Facebook Page will be more active. That's it! There is no rush to start with kick-off. You are not late if you aren't ready to start on August 1.  FIRST LEGO League Jr is estimated to take 12-16 meetings - our last expo will likely be in May.
How to Register with FIRST

3) FUN Activity for Your Team
Looking for a fun way to kick-off meeting as a team? Before you break out the LEGO, take a little trip to the kitchen to learn all about what makes our moon shine in the night sky, the STARS!

Ingrediants: 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup cake flour, 1tbsp microencapsulated fumaric acid, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/8 tsp salt, Water, Butterfly Pea Flower Powder, 3 Egg Whites

4)  ORTOP is HIRING!
Are you are next Development and Communications Director?
ORTOP is looking to expand our ability to serve the students of Oregon. To help us accomplish that we are in need of an amazing Development and Communications Director. This is a full-time benefited position to join ORTOP at our offices, currently in Beaverton. Join our enthusiastic team as we LAUNCH to new heights! See all the details HERE

Are you ready to give back to the community and help the underserved? ORTOP is looking for 2 AMERICORP VISTAs!
As an alumna of the FIRST AmeriCorp VISTA program I can tell you that giving a year of my time changed the way I see the world and where I wanted to go in my life. ORTOP has 2 openings for 18+ year-old National Volunteer who is ready to learn all about poverty and how it shapes the communities of Oregon, then help us change that by growing sponsorship and FIRST programs to help kids learn skills to allow them to move their community beyond poverty! The chosen applicants will get a government stipend, completion education award, and the opportunity to work with ORTOP Staff on a daily basis!  Learn all about it HERE

I will be in and out of the office for the remainder of the month. If you are in Eastern Oregon and would like to meet up, please contact me as I will be in the area! I'd love to have coffee or a chat while I'm there!  Please understand that while I will have email access, my response may be slower than you are accustomed to.

Best Wishes,
Loridee
