Welcome to BOOMTOWN BUILD! All coaches in Oregon are automatically added to this mailing list. Teams in neighboring communities are welcome to participate in Oregon Expos provided there is space. If you have missed an email from Oregon you may read the archive on our blog, or see the important links on our website. Official updates and program materials can be found on the FIRST LEGO League Jr Challenge website.
1) Expo Cancelations 😢
It is with great sadness that I must inform all of you that our expos are being canceled this spring. If the opportunity arises we will look into a summer expo experience, however; that is unlikely. Please know that my heart is with all of our teams, but health of our community is critical and we all must play our part at this time.I know that the expos represent half of the learning in FIRST LEGO League Jr. It is not lightly that these events have been canceled, however; please read below for some virtual options to allow your team to see the work of other teams and to share their own experiences.
If you have applied to attend a canceled expo please complete this form. Thank you.
2) Virtual Expo Opportunity
The Facebook group FLL Jr: Share and Learn is hosting a virtual expo.
Team Instructions:
1. Record your presentation.
2. Add close-ups of your Show Me Poster and Inspire Model
3. Be sure you take a look at the Assessment Document linked below for guidance on what to include. Reviewers may ask additional questions in the comments.
3. Create a new post in this group with all your materials (or share a link to where they are). Add a hashtag to the post: #SLVirtualExpo2020.
All S&L Members are encouraged to leave the team feedback and messages (in addition to the official reviewers)
Reviewers for the Share & Learn Virtual Expo Weeks:
Our Head reviewer is Faith Knudsen Bongiorno for the Share & Learn Expo.
Week of March 15: Faith and Sarah
Week of March 22: Manjiri and Gloria
Week of March 29: Susan and Rori
Week of April 5: Jeremy and Janelle
*There are a lot more volunteers (including me). Depending upon how many submissions we have in a particular week, we will add more pairs of reviewers. We thought we would start with 2 a week.
** FRC Teams who volunteered will work together to help create the awards for the kids and will provide any additional support we need in the background.
Reviewer Instructions:
Please work with your partner to review all submissions that week.

Thank you for lifting up our youngest FIRST participants.
3) Share with ORTOP
I would LOVE to see all your team has done this season. The expos are some of my favorite times all spring. If your team would like to share their season with ORTOP I will be happy to review your submissions and present you with an Oregon Certificate in a pdf. I may even recruit some of our high school team members to contribute.
If your team is willing to share publicly, please feel free to upload to Youtube or another video service and email me a link with the subject: ORTOP Virtual Expo, or post your video and pictures on our Facebook page. If you aren't comfortable posting publicly, just send your information by email. If you can, please try to include a video of the team sharing what they have learned this year through BOOMTOWN BUILD, have the team describe what their model does and what each part represents. Have them share what they think is the coolest thing they made and did. If you can't video, please send text and pictures.
4) Virtual Certificates and Medal graphic
Sometimes life gives us a different view of completion then we expected. Whether it's getting sick, undergoing a move or big life change, or even a natural disaster, sometimes things are just different. Even if your team can't participate in one of the virtual events above, please have a celebration of all the team has done and learn. If you would like to use them, I am making the ORTOP Certificate available and an image that will fit inside any standard medallion, if you would like to buy medals for your team.FIRST LEGO League Jr Oregon Graphics
