  4. WeDo in Space - Fun with Spinners

Welcome to MISSION MOON! All coaches in Oregon are automatically added to this mailing list. Teams in neighboring communities are welcome to participate in Oregon Expos provided there is space.  If you have missed an email from Oregon you may read the archive on our blog, or see the important links on our website. Official updates and program materials can be found on the FIRST LEGO League Jr Challenge website.

1) OMSI Expo registration is closing!

Expo registration for the 4 OMSI expos on April 13 & 14 will close on March 19! Please have your team registration form completed and payment in by March 19 so that assignments can be finalized. To the best of our ability teams will be assigned to their first or second choice of time. All teams will be contacted if both of their choices are full before being assigned to another event. TEAMS WILL NOT BE ASSIGNED WITHOUT PAYMENT!

Team assignments will go out on March 20th! Assignments cannot be finalized until registration closes!

The Escape Velocity Expo at Hood River County Library will close on April 3rd. I will be out of town so assignments will go out on Thursday the 4th of April!

2) New Expo Added June 1 - Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

We are happy to announce the return of FIRST LEGO League Jr to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville! This expo will take place is a FREE part of the museums and a discount on admission will be available for all participants who would like to see one or both museums during the day. Teams who are attending another expo in Oregon are welcome to apply again to attend this expo as a second expo. Preference will be given to teams who have not attended any expo. If this expo is your preference over an expo you have signed up for already, please email Loridee-Wetzel@ortop.org to change your preference.

I hope your team will join us on June 1, 2019 from 10-1 pm for the Galaxy Expo at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum!

3) Print your Team Roster BEFORE April!

Whether your team is attending an expo in April, May, or June you MUST print your team RosterFIRST resets the systems after the World Festival in April and all data for this year will become inaccessible and your team will no longer show as paid 😢.  To make sure there are no problems at your expo, please print your roster now. It is ok if not all of your team members are on the roster as they can use a paper consent form at any time!
before the end of April.

To print your team roster (which you MUST turn in at your expo) please use these steps:

  1. One of the two lead coaches must log in at www.firstinspires.org
  2. If you are not automatically taken to your DASHBOARD, select Dashboard from the upper right corner.
  3. Make sure your FIRST LEGO League Jr team is open on the Dashboard if you have multiple teams you will need to print each roster individually by opening each team.
  4. With your team open, the middle section will be Team Contacts. At the bottom of this section is a blue button. This has the option to print your Roster. You can also do this from the Contact Screen.
  5. Make sure all team members and coaches on your Roster show Y under Consent Form, if everyone is on the Roster and has a signed consent form showing you are done! Don't lose this page!
  6. For each person who does not appear on the roster or does not have a signed digital Consent Form - go to the Contact page by selecting Manage Contacts.
  7. Scroll down the page to the YOUTH MEMBERS section. On the right side of the screen, you will have the option to download and print the Consent Form (called Youth Team Member Paperwork). This is available in English or Spanish.
Taking these simple steps now will help make checking in to your expo straightforward and easy!

4) WeDo in Space - Fun with Spinners

Have you wondered how spinning affects travel in microgravity? I invite you and your team to watch this fun experiment done by NASA with the classic WeDo 1.0 system and the WeDo smart spinner build. This video is designed to be used with NASA classroom; however, there is a lot of fun to be seen here.

Have a wonderful Pi Day!

I hope your MISSION MOON is coming along on the road to success. If your team is attending the OMSI expos they should be at least halfway through their workbooks at this time. If your team is just getting started, there is still plenty or room in the Hood River, Roseburg, and McMinnville expos.

Best Wishes,
Loridee
